What is Chinese Medicine?
Chinese Medicine is a complete system of medicine that has a 3000 year old history. Chinese Medicine can diagnose, treat, and prevent many illnesses and disorders. This system of medicine works not only on the physical health, but also the mental, emotional, and spiritual well being of a person
What does it feel like? Does it hurt?
Most patients do not report any discomfort from acupuncture needles. Acupuncture needles are very thin, only about the width of a human hair. If, at any time, you are uncomfortable with any sensation that the treatment is causing, your needles can be adjusted or removed. Your comfort is our priority.
How does it work?
The mechanism of how acupuncture works is not entirely understood by Western medicine. Acupuncture engages a system of energy pathways running throughout the body called meridians. The meridians transport Qi (pronounced “chee”), which can be defined as an vital energy that makes up all parts of the body. In cases of disease or disorder, the qi of the body is stagnant, deficient, or excess. Through the use of acupuncture and herbs, the qi of the body can be brought back into balance.
When will I notice the results?
Acute conditions usually respond very quickly to acupuncture and herbal treatments, especially when treated early in the illness. Chronic conditions can take longer , sometimes up to 5 treatments before results are noticeable. As a general rule, you should feel better after an acupuncture treatment.
What do I need to do to prepare for a treatment?
It is important that you do the following prior to an acupuncture treatment:
- Wear comfortable clothing.
- Avoid being overly fatigued or hungry.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Try to schedule some time after the treatment to relax.
